Breast drooping is a natural process with aging and associated with skin stretching and downward-facing nipples. It can occur in both large and small breasts. It usually happens that the upper half of the breast becomes emptied, and the nipples become low placed.
Breast lift, in medical terms mastopexy (suspension) is an operation that restores the youthful appearance of the breasts, fills the upper pole and returns the nipples to the anatomical position. There are three degrees of breast drooping and depending on the degree, different suspension techniques are used: 1. breast augmentation without reduction or enlargement 2. breast augmentation with simultaneous augmentation – sometimes it is necessary to restore volume with “emptied” breasts using silicone implants and 3. breast lift with simultaneous reduction.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the applied technique. The patient is discharged home the next day. Wearing a special bra is necessary a month after the operation. The scars after this operation are visible, but aesthetically acceptable.
